How free works
These 13 patterns are free inside the Sewzy iPhone app. You get every size, the printable PDF for letter paper, the A0 file for a copy shop and the written step-by-step guide. You do not need Premium or a trial for them.
You can also download each free PDF straight from its pattern page on this site: enter your email and the files appear.
Your first hour
If you have never sewn before, pick one of these four. Each is a few straight seams and is done in under an hour.
The scrunchie takes about 15 minutes and uses scraps. The baby bib is 20 minutes and finishes with a snap. The drawstring bag is cut from one folded piece, so there is no bottom seam. The zipper pouch is the first step toward zippers, and the guide walks you through each side of the zipper.
Not clothes
Things for the home and things to carry. Good for gifts and for practicing straight lines.
The bowl cozy and the potholder are quilted. Use 100% cotton fabric and thread for both. The bowl cozy uses cotton batting (polyester can melt in the microwave); the potholder needs heat-resistant batting made for oven mitts plus a layer of cotton batting. The envelope cushion needs no zipper: the back is two overlapping hemmed panels.
Clothes, XS to 3XL
Four garments with real body measurements on every size. Choose tops by your bust and skirts and pants by your hip.

A good order to sew them in
Scrunchie, then drawstring bag, then zipper pouch. Those three teach a tube, a casing and a zipper. Next the tote bag and the elastic-waist skirt. After that you are ready for the boxy tee, which adds a bias-bound neckline and sleeves, and the barrel pants, which add pockets and a curved crotch seam. The same XS to 3XL chart carries on into the Premium Wrap Pants and Kimono Robe when you want a next step. There is more on this in easy sewing projects for beginners.
