How the porch goose size finder works

Every Sewzy porch goose outfit comes in three sizes, one for each common lawn goose: Small for a 17 in goose, Standard for a 23 in goose and Large for a 27 in goose. The finder checks each measurement you enter against the same size table used on the porch goose outfit patterns page, and then takes the largest size any of them asks for.

Height: up to 17 in is Small, up to 23 in is Standard, up to 27 in is LargeBody around: must be at or under the body max of the sizeHead around: must be at or under the head max of the sizeYour size = the biggest size that any measurement needs

A goose that falls between two heights, say 20 in, takes the larger size, Standard in that case. The same goes for the body and head: if either number is over the max for a size, the finder moves up one size. Height is the main number. Body and head are optional checks that matter most when your goose is plump or has a big beak.

To take the numbers, stand the goose on its base and measure straight up to the top of the head, then wrap the tape around the widest part of the body, and around the head and beak. The guide to measuring a porch goose shows where to put the tape. Once you know your size, browse the porch goose outfit patterns. Each one includes all three sizes.

Questions about the porch goose size finder

What size porch goose do I have?

Most lawn geese are 17, 23 or 27 inches tall. Measure from the base to the top of the head and enter it above. The Standard size, for a 23 inch goose, fits the most common store-bought goose.

What if my goose is between two sizes?

Choose the larger size. A slightly roomy outfit still looks good on a goose and goes on easily, while a tight one is hard to pull over the body.

Do I need the body and head measurements?

They are optional. Height is enough for most geese, but if your goose has a wide body or a large head, the body and head limits can push you up a size. The finder checks them when you fill them in.

Is the size the same for every outfit?

Yes. Each porch goose outfit pattern includes Small, Standard and Large, and the sizes follow the same table, so you can use one measurement for every outfit.
